Know Our Struggle

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is a political party with strong presence in Jharkhand. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha came out of the Jharkhand Statehood Movement. The party was founded by Binod Bihari Mahto, Disom Guru Shibu Soren and Comrade Dr. A.K. Roy to empower the struggle for Jharkhand’s autonomy and Jharkhand’s pride. The party carried the baton for Jharkhand Statehood movement for about three decades.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha works on a pro-Jharkhand ideology. It has always worked as an organization echoing the needs and demands of Adivasi, Moolvasi, backward castes, the underprivileged and the marginalised and middle class people residing in Jharkhand.

Since its inception, the party stood by those exploited and marginalised by the powerful, ruling class. The party worked for tirelessly to secure rights of the tribal population in the state and protect their traditions and customs. The party fought along with the industrial and mining workers against the atrocities meted out on them.

After years of struggle, countless martyrdom and innumerable sacrifices, in the year 2000, we finally achieved “Abua Disom, Abua Raj” with Jharkhand attaining statehood on 15th November 2000.

However, it was not the end of the struggle. Having steered the path of statehood, JMM was determined to provide a future for Jharkhand that every Jharkhandi will be proud of. The struggle continued, struggle to build a Jharkhand we all dreamt about. To build a prosperous Jharkhand that will look after each and every Jharkhandi.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha embodies the struggle, visions and aspirations of each and every individual residing in Jharkhand. The party works to empower people across several fronts in order to strengthen their struggle and their identity.

We believe that in order to build a prosperous society, we must work to bring together different parts of the society and strengthen their voices to achieve the goal of self-determination and self-expression to battle all forms of exploitation. In order to achieve the same, we work on 9 morcha or fronts concerning a particular social group and raising their concerns and issues, strengthening them to build a prosperous Jharkhand.
